Open burning requires a permit from the Fire Department. Each year you must come to the fire station to obtain a burning permit. There is a $5 fee for the permit. Once you have obtained your initial permit, all you have to do is call the fire station on the day that you wish to burn to find out if burning is allowed that day (the Shift Commander decides each day if burning will be allowed or not based on weather conditions and information from the National Weather Service and Department of Environmental Protection). If burning is allowed, you simply give the firefighter your permit number and address. It's that simple!!
