Game On VBS Decorations – Perfect For Any Sports Themed Parties or VBS

Our church always holds it’s VBS the first week of summer. One part of me loves that because it’s a great way to kick off summer but the other part is already worn out from end of school stuff. Last year when I found out that the theme was sports, I was kinda lost on ideas for decorating for a sports themed VBS like Game On.  I wasn’t sure how I wanted to decorate or how I could do it quickly when I was already so exhausted. However I found a magic trick that I want to share with you. Not only did this one magic thing make everything so much easier – it was cheap too!  First let me show you a few pics of the room and hall that I decorated. The space I use as a third grade leader for VBS is huge – well kinda. It’s a lot of wall space but I actually use one tiny hall and two tiny rooms. The rooms are so small that we squeeze past tables in one room for arts and crafts and then go to the other room for lesson and games without the hassle of tables and chairs.  In the past having all that wall space has been really hard for me to decorate. Other teachers throw up 4 walls of paper with cute decorations and call it done but I have 12 walls!  That’s why I was so glad to find my secret weapon this year.  Are you ready for it? Sports themed shower curtains from the Dollar Tree!  I’ve shared in the past how I like to use table clothes from the Dollar Tree to decorate for VBS.  One year I cut green table clothes into long lines and hung them from the walls as vines. This past year I painted black table clothes to look like galaxies and hung them from the ceiling. This year though I did not have the time to spray white lines on green table clothes to make them look like football fields or draw black lines on brown ones to look like a basketball.  But I did have time to tack them to the wall with staplers and then put up a few chalkboard themed decorations.  And can I just tell you that I loved how it turned out?  Has anyone else noticed that Victory has a cross in the middle?  The one downside is that table cloths go floor to ceiling when you unfold them. The shower curtains were large squares so they either had to be taped together, leave a little open on the bottom or turned diagonally.  If you want to use the sports themed shower curtains, you can order them in boxes of 24 from DollarTree.com if you can’t find them at your local store. I also used a few tablecloths that had a grass print on them that I found at the .99 Cent Store before Easter.  To add a little bit more fun we also made this large net that hung from the ceiling in the hall using pool noodles and white crepe paper. We rolled all the crepe paper out the night before and used tiny dots of glue to hold it all together. Then we taped it onto the tops of the pool noodles and hung the pool noodles from the ceiling. I loved how it looked! One of my favorite decorations was the huge Jesus pendant in the corner right before the kids walked in the room. This was another decoration that was really easy to make. We glued two pieces of bulletin board paper together (for strength), cut out a flag shape and then decorated it. Once the paint and glue were dry we glued two pool noodles together and attached everything to the wall.  If you want to glue something like a pool noodle to the wall that’s either covered in a tablecloth or you don’t want to mess up the wall you can easily do that!Attach painter’s tape to the wall and then putting the hot glue directly onto the painter’s tape. Press the pool noodle into the hot glue and it will stick! Finally we needed a way for people to find our room since you do have to go down a short hall and the room number was hidden by decorations. So we made a giant clipboard to go in the outer hall that would lead people our way.

Don’t forget! If you need help with some GAME ON! Craft Ideas, you can find some cute ones here!

If you liked these decorations, please share them on Pinterest or Facebook for more people to find.
