Annual Report of the Zoning Board of Appeals

During the year 2021, 41 applications for variances, special permits, planned developments, comprehensive permits, or appeals were filed with the Town Clerk. Of the 41 applications filed, 33 were granted, 4 were withdrawn, 1 was denied and 3 applications are still pending as of December 31. The Board held public hearings, as required by law, to act upon these requests. After rendering their decisions, they were placed on file in the Town Clerk's Office. All applications, instructions, and agendas for public hearings are posted on the website.

The first Zoning Bylaw was adopted at the Town Meeting held June 27, 1955. Since the first bylaws were adopted, the Town has continued to update the Zoning Bylaws as necessary by Town Meeting votes as required by Massachusetts General Laws. All favorably voted amendments to the Zoning Bylaw and maps are forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General for approval as required by law.

The Zoning By-law and official Zoning Map are now available at no charge on our Website under Departments - Zoning Board of Appeals. Upon request, hard copies of the Zoning By-Law and the Zoning Maps are also available for purchase in the Office of the Town Clerk. Applications and all other necessary filing paperwork are available on the website and are also available in the Office of the Town Clerk.
